Communicating with Parents Through Storytimes

Full day (6 content hours, 7.5 hours including lunch/breaks)

Description

Enhance your storytimes by incorporating informationfor parents/caregivers into them. Includes early literacy research, examples of the development of each of the six early literacy skills for newborn to five-year-olds, techniques for planning storytimes that reach adults and children and specific ideas for doing so. Why address parents and caregivers? How does this approach change your storytimes? How can your early literacy enhanced storytimes become a catalyst for change in your community? Based on the Every Child Ready to Read @ your library project. Hands-on practice developing a literacy-enhanced storytime by building on what they already do in storytimes. 

Partipant Limit: 50

Assignment 

Bring a storytime plan of your own or one based on one in the Early Literacy Manual. Bring your written out storytime plan and the books you have chosen. Please include one factual book.

Materials

In both options a Powerpoint presentation in 3-to-a-page note-taking format will be provided by email (black & white, 2 sided ok; stapled). You may download the entire materials packet, or select the individual files you need below. Workshop materials are available in PDF format.
