Adults as Partners in Developing Language and Literacy in Young Children

Full day (6 content hours, 7.5 hours including lunch/breaks)

Enhance your storytimes that boost early literacy behaviors in young children through interactivity and intentionality. Through a better understanding of the early literay components based on Every Child Ready to Read2, participants are better able to articulate to parents/caregivers and partners the value of what they are doing and ways to support early literacy. Includes examples of the early literacy development from newborn to five-year-olds, the five practices (sing, talk, read, write, play), and a demonstration storytime. How do we keep adults and adults engaged? How does addressing caregivers change your storytimes? How can your early literacy enhanced storytimes become a catalyst for change in your community? Hands-on practice developing a literacy-enhanced storytime by building on the storytimes and materials they are already using.

So  . . . what's the difference between this workshop and Supercharged Storytimes?
This training includes more on storytime content relating it to early literacy and a demonstrations storytime, with less time given to assessment. It relates the activities we do in storytime to early literacy but does not use the Earl Literacy Planning Tool.

Participant Limit: 50
