Adults as Partners in Developing Language and Literacy in Young Children

Full day (6 content hours, 7.5 hours including lunch/breaks)

Enhance your storytimes to boost early literacy behaviors in young children through interactivity and intentionality. Through a better understanding of the early literacy components based on Every Child Ready to Read2, participants are better able to articulate to parents/caregivers and partners the value of what they are doing and ways to support early literacy. Includes examples of the early literacy development from newborn to five-year-olds, the five practices (sing, talk, read, write, play), and a demonstration storytime. How do we keep adults and adults engaged? How does addressing caregivers change your storytimes? How can your early literacy enhanced storytimes become a catalyst for change in your community? Hands-on practice developing an early literacy-enhanced storytime by building on the storytimes and materials you are already using.

So  . . . what's the difference between this workshop and Supercharging Your Storytimes ?
The Supercharging Your Storytimes training  uses a Planning Tool as the basis for implementing intentionality and spends more time on storytime assessment. The Storytimes for Everyone workshop talks about intentionality without the use of the Planning Tool, and includes a demonstration of a storytime incorporating early literacy tips.

Participant Limit: 50

Bring with you the following: Books from a storytime
Participants who do not present storytimes: Please bring one picture book that you enjoy and would use with a child any age between 2 – 5 years old. NO ONE will be put on the spot to present a storytime!
